(ECNS) -- Two subway trains developed by CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd., one of China's major high-speed train manufacturers, left Tianjin Port for Portugal’s Porto on Thursday. This is China’s first metro project to be exported to a European Union country. According to a contract signed in January 2020, CRRC Tangshan will produce 18 subway trains, with 72 carriages in total, for a metro company in Porto. The subway train is 17.7 meters long, 2.6 meters wide, and 3.43 meters high, weighing 28.4 metric tons. With a maximum passenger capacity of 334 people on each train and a maximum speed of 80 km per hour, the subway trains feature lightweight design, low energy consumption, low noise and intelligent operation, according to the manufacturer. The metropolitan area of Porto has 1.7 million inhabitants, 17 percent of Portugal’s population. |
