Wang Qishan, chief of the discipline watchdog of the Communist Party of China (CPC), pledged Thursday stricter Party supervision to consolidate the foundation of governance in the country.

"The people's support is the political foundation for a party ruling a country," said Wang, head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, when meeting former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing.

Briefing Kissinger on the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, Wang stressed the significance of strict political discipline and rule in the Party, as well as innovation to advance strict Party governance.

Efforts should be made to supervise Party organs and government organs, Wang said, adding that self-supervision of the Party and government should integrate with public supervision, and strict Party governance should combine with deepening of reform and advancement of rule of law.

Kissinger said he was impressed by the CPC's governance and anti-corruption achievements, and he would contribute more to the development of U.S.-China relations.
